In the interests of public safety Council will be installing Automated Flooded Road Warning Systems (AFRWS) at Muriel Avenue, Rocklea. Works will include the installation of:
- Two “ROAD CLOSED NO ENTRY” LED signs on Muriel Ave, Rocklea on the immediate approaches to Rocky Waterholes Creek. The signage is activated when water reaches a height unsuitable for safe passage.
- Four “ROAD CLOSED AHEAD” LED signs in advance of the creek including on Sherwood Rd approaching Muriel Ave, Fairfield Rd approaching Muriel Avenue eastbound and westbound, Muriel Avenue opposite 99, that will also activate as warning to motorists when water reaches a height unsuitable for safe passage.
– Water level sensor near Rocky Water Holes Creek to monitor and activate the LED road signs.
– Camera near the location to allow for remote monitoring of the locations when the system is activated.
The installation of this AFRWS is planned for installation by December 2024, ready for summer storm period.
