After surveying our community with yesterdays storm (Friday 15 December), the main issues I witnessed were: many power lines down with electricity cut; many trees over and localised flooding particularly in Stable Swamp Creek, Rocklea. Several road accidents. The Moorooka Ward was hit badly with continued loss of power in many suburbs.

I’ve been advised by Council that residents in Brisbane are being supported today with assistance from clean-up crews (including SES) and free green waste drop off available at the Willawong Resource Recovery Centre (RRC) all weekend.

Brisbane and Redlands SES crews will be on the ground Saturday (today), along with Council-trained arborists to assist with vegetation removal.

I have asked Council for a localised kerbside green waste collection however it has not been supported yet.

Residents should report fallen trees outside their property boundary, or issues with storm water drains, directly to Brisbane City Council on 3403 8888.

Street sweepers will also be in action to clean debris in our suburbs including Rocklea and Mooroooka.

Residents who need assistance with storm affected properties should contact the SES on 132 500.

Stay away from fallen powerlines and report these immediately to Energex on 13 19 62.
