“My name is Rowan, and I am in Year 6. I like telling jokes, playing Braille Uno, and I love running cross country with my guide runner; I recently came 5th out of 50 runners.

My mum and I want to tell you how important Braille House is to me and other kids like me, who are blind or have low vision.

I haven’t decided yet what I want to be when I grow up, but I do know I need my education. Being able to read is a big part of learning and having books in Braille helps me. We are members of the Braille House Library and I enjoy reading comedy and sport books. Did you know that for every 100 books available to a sighted child, there are less than five children’s books created in Braille?

For me, Braille House is somewhere that I can learn, be challenged, and talk like crazy to new and old friends. They teach how to read Braille, support our community, and bring families together at events like the Braille House Literary Challenge. It is a place where I feel welcome, and I can be myself.

My mum and I invite you to make a donation to Braille House. Your donation will support a stronger future for children who are blind or have low vision. You will help us know the wonder of reading Harry Potter, the excitement of Aladdin and the pure wisdom of Winnie the Pooh. We need to have the opportunity to read as many books as we can get our hands on!

Thank you!”
